Phonics
At St Augustine of Canterbury, we believe that reading is the key to accessing all areas of learning both in school and in the wider world.
To teach the building blocks for reading, we follow ‘Essential Letters and Sounds’ which is a systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) programme, validated by the Department for Education. The aim of ELS is ‘Getting all children to read well, quickly’.
