Prayer is at the heart of our school community and reflects our Catholic mission and values. Through prayer, we nurture our relationship with God, deepen our faith, and encourage every child to grow spiritually, emotionally and morally.
Prayer is woven throughout the school day and takes many forms. Children participate in daily prayer, class prayer, liturgies, assemblies and collective worship, providing opportunities for reflection, thanksgiving, celebration and petition. Throughout the liturgical year, we mark significant seasons and feast days, helping pupils to develop a deeper understanding of the traditions of the Catholic Church.
We encourage our pupils to lead and participate actively in prayer, creating meaningful opportunities for them to develop confidence in expressing their faith and sharing their spirituality with others. Prayer spaces in classrooms and around the school provide places for quiet reflection and contemplation, supporting children in their personal faith journey. We regularly update these to reflect the liturgical calendar and special times within the Catholic church including the Year of Prayer, Jubilee year and other special events.
Working in partnership with families and our parish community, we strive to create a welcoming and prayerful environment where everyone is valued and inspired to live out the Gospel values in their daily lives. Through our rich prayer life, we seek to help every child encounter God's love and recognise their unique role in building a caring, compassionate and faith-filled community.
Following the Catholic Education Service's Prayer and Liturgy Directory To Love You More Dearly, we have devised the guidance below to support the development of prayer across school.
Throughout the year, children will experience a variety of prayer opportunities that are suitable for their age and stage of development. These include daily classroom prayer, liturgical celebrations, Masses, collective worship, reflection times, and opportunities to lead and participate in prayer. As children progress through the school, they will gradually develop greater confidence in planning and leading prayer experiences themselves.
The Prayer and Liturgy Directory encourages pupils to understand prayer as a way of gathering, listening to God's Word, responding in faith, and being sent out to live as disciples of Jesus. Our provision reflects this structure, helping children to engage with Scripture, reflect on its meaning for their lives, and consider how they can put their faith into action.
Families play a vital role in nurturing faith, and we are committed to strengthening the partnership between home, school and parish. Throughout the year, we will share prayer resources, liturgical celebrations and opportunities for families to join us in worship and reflection.
By following our Annual Plan of Provision, we aim to ensure that every child experiences prayer and liturgy as inclusive, meaningful and joyful, enabling them to grow in faith and understand their role within the Church and wider community.
